Thursday, March 26th 5:30 pizza / 6:00 program
Scarboro Community Center (148 Carver Ave, Oak Ridge, TN 37830)
Lóre Stevens will share her thoughts about a basic pillar of our democracy. Our democracy was created with the value of separation of church and state, but the reasoning and details of this principle are sometimes lost. Together, let's explore spirituality and its relationship to political power, so we can gain solace from our connection to something greater than us and steward the healthy boundaries between earthly powers and religious wonders.
Lóre (rhymes with 'story') is the minister of Oak Ridge Unitarian Universalist Church. She is of Mexican-American descent, grew up in Powell, and has been overjoyed to return to East Tennessee. She holds a Master's in Gender Studies as well as a Master's of Divinity from Harvard University. She is an active part of the community -- just in January Lóre presented at the Martin Luther King Day celebration at Oak Valley Baptist Church and stood in below-zero temperatures when Minneapolis put out a nationwide call for clergy, from all traditions, to help them resist ICE actions.
